Austin Hassani ist britischer Nationalspieler und wechselt von den Stuttgart Reds zu den Hamburg Stealers. Hassani hat bereits 2021 für die Berlin Flamingos gespielt und 2022 für die Reds aus Stuttgart. Hassani hat somit schon viel Erfahrung in Deutschland sammeln können. Aktuell spielt der Pitcher noch in Australien und bereitet sich dort bei besten Bedingungen auf die Saison vor.
Coach Wohlgemuth freut sich über den Neuzugang: “Austin hat eine tolle Entwicklung hinter sich. Seine Leistungen in Stuttgart waren sehr gut. Wir sind schon länger in Kontakt und dieses Jahr passt es für beide Seiten am besten. Austin kann die Rolle als Starting Pitcher übernehmen, aber er hat auch schon bewiesen, dass er spät im Spiel eingewechselt werden kann.” Neben seinen Fähigkeiten auf dem Hügel erwartet Wohlgemuth auch, dass Hassani seine Expertise dem Nachwuchs im Pitching weitergeben soll. “In der Bundesliga haben wir ein sehr jungen pitching staff und wir wollen, dass sich die jungen Pitcher ohne Druck entwickeln können. Kubosan und Hassani sollen den jungen Pitchern helfen und gleichzeitig ist Austin natürlich auch fest im Nachwuchstraining eingeplant.”

Stealers: Why did you sign with the Hamburg Stealers?
Austin: I have been in contact with David for a few years now. Seeing the direction the club has been going, and the mindset to win now was a big reason for my decision. I look forward to working with the organization and the team this upcoming season to win a championship. I’m thankful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.
Stealers: What are your personal goals for the Season 2023?
Austin: Personally, the goal for this year is to compete and give my team a chance to win every time I pitch. I look forward to helping the club out in any way necessary and I am excited for a new opportunity in a new city with a group that wants to win now.
Stealers: You had very good season in 2022? What did you change from 2021 to 2022?
Austin: Playing in the south last season gave me a chance to gain experience in both leagues. A big difference between my 2021-2022 was a gain in velocity as well as polishing up my breaking balls. Opportunities to pitch in big moments as well as experience in the European Championship gave me experience and confidence that helped me succeed. I plan to take the same mindset into this upcoming season.
Stealers: What did you do during this winter / off season?
Austin: This past offseason I went back to Toronto where I was training with the Baseball Development Group. In January I was asked to come join the Kensington Cardinals in the South Australian league for the second half of their season.
